Message from the Instructor
KCC 에서 강의 할 때에 노년층의 어르신부터 매우 어린 아이들까지 강의를 하게 되었고 어르신들에게서 참으로 많은 것을 배우고 느낍니다. 배우는 과정이 더디지만 노력하시는 모습들, 그리고 결국에 작은 어떠한 결과물까지 만들어내는 모습들을 보면서 많은 귀감이 됩니다.
기타를 배워서 좋은 점
매우 과학적으로 설계된 악기인 기타는 피아노의 화성과 선율, 드럼의 타악기적 특성 등 여러 악기가 가지고 있는 특성들을 고루 갖추고 있는 매력적인 악기입니다. 기타는 현을 직접 만질 수 있는 악기이기 때문에 소리의 울림뿐만 아니라 현의 촉감을 통해서도 정서적 이완 효과를 얻을 수 있습니다. 더불어 악기연습의 과정에서 몰입의 즐거움도 느낄 수 있습니다. 모든 악기가 그러하듯 기타 역시 반복적인 연습을 통해 실력향상과 성취감을 얻을 수 있으며, 이러한 반복 연습의 과정에서 몰입과 집중할 때 느낄 수 있는 기쁨을 체험할 수 있기 때문입니다.
Instructor Bio
Jae young Jeong is a guitarist, composer, and educator who began his musical life at the age of 16. He initially started with learning classical guitar at a music academy, but after a year he switched his main instrument to electric guitar. In 2000, he started to attend Seoul Jazz Academy to learn music more deeply. During that time, he was able to familiarize himself with various styles of music and get many opportunities of playing in concerts, gigs, and recording sessions. After graduating from Seoul Jazz Academy, he continued his studies by taking private lessons with good jazz guitarists in Korea. While that time, he could learn more of jazz guitar techniques and different styles of playing. In 2007, he was accepted to Berklee College of Music as a World Scholarship Tour recipient. Throughout his school years, he performed with many talented students and has been selected as a bandleader to perform at ‘Jazz Guitar Night Showcase’ that took place at Berklee Performance Center. He studied with Mick Goodrick, Tim Miller, Hal Crook, Greg Osby, Sheryl Bailey, and Darren Barrett. In 2012, Jeong started master’s program in Jazz Studies at NYU Steinhardt, where he studied with artist faculty members: Peter Bernstein, Brad Shepik, Kenny Werner, Ralph Alessi, Andy Milne, Ralph Lalama, Billy Drewes, and John Scofield. Jeong has been performing regularly at several local jazz venues in New York City area. Jeong will be participating in a music festival, ‘One Month Festival’, which will be held in New York City during the month of July, with his group. Also, he is planning to release his own debut album the coming year.
